Summary of Position
The Associate MCFO is a promoter of Disciples Generous Response and promotes whole-life stewardship as an integral component of discipleship, modeling public ministry that is aligned with the church’s identity, mission, message, and beliefs. The Associate MCFO collaborates and works with the MCFO to manage the financial assets within the mission center, representing the MCFO with the World Church, congregations, affiliates, governmental entities and community partners.
Essential Functions
- Encourage incorporation of Disciples Generous Response and its principles into members’ daily lives by preaching, teaching, and performing the sacraments.
- Collaborate with MCFO in recruiting, appointing, training, supporting, and communicating with congregational financial officers.
- Manage expenditures and the collection, receipts, and accounting of mission center and affiliate funds.
- Supervise and support all accounting staff by coordinating the day-to-day tasks of team members, balancing skill sets available with established and new process requirements, with the goal of creating an effective work team.
- Examine existing systems, methods, and reports with the goal of continuous improvement of the financial accounting and human resources processes assuring proper internal control and bookkeeping and accounting procedures are integrated into the administrative structure of the mission center and congregations.
- Respond to on-going needs and special requests for information by coordinating team workflow with the goal of meeting all due dates.
- Follow policies and procedures of the church and regulatory groups with the goal of full compliance in all activities.
- Provide accounting management support for congregations with the goal of assisting the congregational financial officers with accounting and reporting responsibilities as needed.
- Ensure accuracy of general ledger entries, reconciling Balance Sheet accounts quarterly, and reviewing all income and expense accounts.
- Responsible for all other duties that may be assigned.
Required Competencies/Skills
- Demonstrated leadership experience in local congregation or mission center.
- Experience, knowledge, and understanding of accounting principles; non-profit fund accounting experience preferred.
- Detail oriented.
- Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and listening.
- Proficiency with the Internet, Microsoft Office, and ability to quickly learn other software.
- Ability to recognize, report, and resolve situations out of the ordinary or out of compliance.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and integrity.
- Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal savvy.

Required Trainings
Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
